s players celebrate with the trophy after defeating Sri Lanka during their Twenty20 World Cup Final cricket match at Lord cricket ground in London.-712774Aman ki Asha : 11 Pakistani Cricket players were totally ignored by bidders and organizers of 3rd edition of IPL Twenty 20 Tournament.

“Aman ki Asha” is a so-called joint peace campaign launched by Jang group and Times of India; its prime objective is to create peace and harmony among both nations, but it suffered a major setback after recent “IPL 2010” bidding episode, in which IPL bidders completely ignored Pakistani star cricketers who are currently Twenty-20 World champions, it is  beyond one’s understanding that how can anyone overlook players like Shahid afridi, umer gull, who are one of the most successful T-20 players in recent times, success of Shahid Afridi can be gauged from his performance in Twenty 20 World cup and recently concluded Big Bash T-20 Tournament and everyone knows that  how quickly he can turn the tables for his team with his deadly batting and good bowling.

After “IPL 2010” bidding episode, organizers of IPL are giving lame excuses of ignoring Pakistani Players, like there were security reasons bla bla, but everyone knows what were real reasons behind their actions; now analysts are saying that if anyone wants to turn “Aman ki Asha” like campaigns into a success, then before any such peace movement permanent solution of core issues involving Pakistan and India is must, because without solving core issues, these types of campaigns are nothing more than a fruitless exercise.

Islamabad – At a time when country is facing severe energy crisis, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has unnecessarily delayed gas extraction from a discovered gas field Kunar Pesakhi, located some 25 kilometres east of Hyderabad, according to an English daily.

Arshad Nasr, former MD of OGDCL, was not in favour of delaying the installation of gas extraction equipment at the gas field and wanted to start work in July 2008 but he was forced to delay the project. On his resentment, the project was postponed after a letter from PM Secretariat was received and he was replaced.

Kunar Pesakhi is a gas field that can feed the major part of entire private industry and may also be helpful in overcoming power crisis in the country. The said plant is able to produce 280 million cubic feet of gas daily.

This field also can produce 1000 MW of electricity or feed almost the entire industrial sector that currently is at the mercy of gas loadshedding causing loss of exports and unemployment. Commencement of gas production from KPD field will also reduce oil imports.

According to reliable sources, tenders were invited in 2008 for the installation of equipment on the gas field to extract gas and LPG, and two days earlier to the date of tender opening or presentation, the authorities of OGDCL postponed the tenders and till now the situation is same.

The tenders were allegedly stopped due to vested interests of some strong lobby in LPG business because the authorities wanted to give the contract to their blue-eyed or to a party that could make them happy.

Preparation of installing facilities for commencing production from this field was stopped after an anonymous letter was received in 2008 from one Muhammad Ramzan at the behest of a powerful LPG lobby. This lobby is so strong that no further work has been done to produce any gas from this major gas field.

Second+Test+Australia+v+West+Indies+Day+1+yEUVlIRInjXlIt is truly unbelievable! Pakistan lost the second test from Australia by 37 runs;Pakistan team has made fool of themselves by losing the match from such a comfortable position; It was a really a terrible performance by Pakistan cricket team.

When Pakistan team started the fourth day of the match, all things were under control but without any reason Pakistan team as a whole and especially skipper Mohammad Yousuf looked very defensive, field settings of Mohammad Yousuf were not according to the situation, he gave away easy runs to Australian team which helped them posting a fighting 176 runs.

When Australia posted the total of 176 runs, everyone expecting a easy win for Pakistan because of docile SCG batting track but their batting line up made a mess of it; Pakistan started off well with opening stand of 34 runs but after that their wickets started tumbling one by one, umer akmal with score of 49 was the only batsmen who showed some resistance but he also got out by playing very irresponsible shot.

If we take a look at the dismissals of the Pakistani batsmen they all got out because of their own mistakes, there was nothing special about the pitch, Imran Farhat, Salman Butt,Misbah,Mohammad Yousaf ,Umer akmal and Faisal Iqbal all played horrible shots; in the end we must say that  by losing from Australia from such a good position, Pakistan have missed a golden chance to square the series and they must be kicking themselves on such a miserable performance.

ISLAMABAD: Dec 18, Nine clerics were hospitalised on Thursday after they ate ‘poisoned’ halwa.

According to details, some clerics decided to boycott the Ulema and Mashaikh Conference, saying they did not endorse the government’s stance on terrorism, jihad, drone attacks and the Taliban.
They had gathered at Abdul Ghafoor Haideri’s residence to discuss the conference. The guests were served the halwa when Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur

Rehman reached Haideri’s residence to take the “dissidents” into confidence over the draft declaration.
All of them immediately fell sick, however, Mufti Muneeb left the premises and fell unconscious when he reached the conference.

Meanwhile, according to hospital sources, the clerics are said to be in stable condition. Published in Daily Times, Dec 18, 2009

RISING HOPES AT DERA

2524156-Bilot_Temple-Dera_Ismail_KhanBy Fahim Khanzada

Few changes are being speculated after induction of some personalities, each expert in his field, in Dera Ismail Khan’s socio-political spheres. Within a short time of few weeks the newly arrived District Police Head has brought the city out of bloodshed which was merely a routine prior to his arrival with daily sad news of attributing an innocent’s death to blood-ravenous assailants fleeing from the scene intrepidly. Having remained totally successful in his mission, his initiatives like indiscriminate search operations for suspects and ban on pillion-riding, to name the few, have turned the city, a bleeding ground once, back to peaceful routine. The efficacious results in a short time-span by Gul Afzal Khan Afridi won him great applaud and a great support from public was observed when some political elders, afraid of losing their pseudo-authoritative political prisons, approached higher officials, to boot him out. Though abortive in the devilish attempt, the very politicians are still enjoying their past practice of impious behavior as proved by tons of trash lying at every second corner under the city’s Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA). Besides, their obsequious hands with the city’s MNA and holder of an important slot in National Assembly’s speaker-office encouraged him to join their bird-hunting journey, an open criminal offense against the conservation of wildlife and the worst crime for someone having the reputable duty of sustaining order among the country’s Members of the Parliament.

The rapidity of fame and aroha for Faisal Ali Khan, a young foreign qualified Derawal blood often clad in tralatitious Shalwar-Kameez and Turban, in common circles speak volumes about his acceptance as a new leader and true-soother of the public’s unjust wounds, something which the people cherished since long. Eager to spend his potential for Dera’s prosperity, the young leader’s ancestral mansion “Dera Wala Di Jha” (meaning “Place for people of Dera”) is a center of philanthropic activities and noble developmental plans for bringing the city in pace with other developed cities. With no pecuniary targets or conventional goals of becoming a popular warlord, Faisal, who’s also head of FIDA NGO, considers the improvement of life-quality here his moral obligation. Though the efficacious results in a short span may not assuredly prognosticate his success as a leader, his swift popularity and devotion of serving his hometown seems betting so.

Moreover, the arrival of Prof. Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi, a famous political scientist and academic at University of Balochistan, as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Gomal University also omens the achievement of city’s long-felt demand, elimination of corrupt elements from the university and upkeep of transparency in projects. After having assumed his charge as the Vice Chancellor, the professor, a stickler academician from the beginning and a product of meritocratic culture, has started implementing his well-disciplined reforms by discouraging the conventional sycophantic culture and indiscriminate treatment of his subordinates and university students. The mafia of corrupt elements, having acquired the shape of gang adept in producing their desired upshots, perceiving the new boss the cause of their ultimate ill-fate started conspiring to overthrow his Vice Chancellorship and thus restore the Ex-VC. Yet unsuccessful, the mafia still expects to leave no chance of impeaching the VC get wasted. Gomal University, once the famous and sole seat of imparting higher education in the southern areas of NWFP, has been badly played by political interference since its inception.  Dr. Kundi, whose professorship spans over twenty years combined with international exposure and media experience, considers the betterment of university’s image a part of his mission to serve his hometown.  In addition to boosting the university’s image, the professor seems to continue his quest of contributing toward the cause of quality education in Balochistan by developing linkages between both provinces’ institutions and thus bridging the gap within.

In a rapidly digitizing world where Next Generation Wireless Networks, which promise ubiquitous wireless connectivity, are being tested on experimental basis, Dera has, after pillion-riding, witnessed ban on cellular-phones’ services. Such digital amputation, as can be termed, might have produced good results, but by banning some common and necessary public activity, institutions seem avoiding their responsibility of maintaining order whilst observing active social life. Had the statement been baseless, curfew would have been the effective cure of every crime, either major or minor.

PORNOGRAPHY – THE NEXT EPIDEMIC FOR PAKISTAN

Posted by shariat1983 | Posted in Media, Opinion, Others, Pakistan, Uncategorized | Posted on 05-12-2009

A recent survey conducted by Nielsen group concluded that the majority Youth of Pakistan are deeply frustrated and feel abandoned by the government. As more and more urban centers of our country which hold the cream intellect of our nation get connected to the communication networks the epidemic of Pornography grows. In light of growing socio-economic pressures & eroding religious and moral values our strength our youth could well be on its way to a Demographical as well as Social/Morale Disaster.

The recent report commissioned by the British Council revealed that an overwhelming majority of young Pakistanis say their country is headed in the wrong direction, the report said, and only 1 in 10 has confidence in the government. They are now entering a work force in which the lion’s share cannot find jobs, a potentially volatile situation if the government cannot address its concerns.

The despair among the young generation is rooted in the condition of their lives. Only a fifth of those interviewed had permanent full-time jobs. Half said they did not have sufficient skills to enter the workplace. And one in four could not read or write a legacy of the country’s abysmal public education system, in which less than 40 percent of children are enrolled in school which is far below the South Asian average of 58 percent. The study interviewed 1,226 Pakistanis ages 18 to 29, from different backgrounds across the country, in March and April.

The combination of this increasing frustration among youth of our country and their growing access to World Wide Web and information unchecked is driving the youth of this country in a disastrous direction. In order to understand the growing epidemic of Pornography we need to consider the following information about this industry which sheds light on the magnitude of this growing problem:

REVENUE STATISTICS ON PORNOGRAPHY INDUSTRY

Global Revenue from Pornography Industry $ 57 Billion Worldwide (Greater than the combined revenues of all the world’s football, baseball and basketball franchises

Pornography Revenue – United States $ 12 Billion (Exceeds the combined revenue of ABC, CBC & NBC which is 6.2 Billion Dollars)

Adult Video Trade $ 20 Billion (To give clean fresh drinking water to all the people of this planet you only need $ 8 Billion)

Adult Magazines $ 7.5 Billion

Cable Pay Per View $ 2.5 Billion

Pornography Trade on Internet $2.5 Billion (12% of world wide websites are pornographic)

Pornographic CD ROMS $ 1.5 Billion

The pornography industry is 1 – 10th of the World’s Oil Industry and let us not forgets that oil is used in everything.

VIEWERSHIP STATISTICS ON PORNOGRAPHY

World Wide Pornographic Websites 4.2 Million Websites (12% of world wide websites are pornographic)
Pornographic Web-Pages 372 Million WebPages
Daily Pornographic Search Requests (Estimated) 68 Million (25 % of Total search engine requests are to search pornographic websites)
Daily Pornographic E-mails 2.5 Billion
Monthly Pornographic Downloads (Peer 2 Peer) 1.5 Billion (35% of all Downloads)

GENDER STATISTICS ON PORNOGRAPHY

Adults admitting to Internal Pornographic addiction 10 % (These are the ones who are admitting)
Female Vs Male visitors to Pornographic websites 72% Male, 28% Female

The above mentioned statistics are just some of the many that are available, this Information might vary in case of Pakistan due to our different social-economic and cultural condition yet we have to admit this fact that Pornography has started and gained a strong hold in the Pakistani society. There are numerous Public markets in major cities of Pakistan like Karachi, Lahore & Rawalpindi where this heinous trade is taking place.
Apart from this as the Teleco penetration increases and more and more people get access to faster more reliable means to gain information especially the internet this epidemic promises to pose a great threat to our society if allowed to go unchecked.

As we can clearly see from the Statistics above that internet has proven to be a huge medium of transfer for this industry therefore measures need to be taken to ensure that Young ones and Adults alike do not gain access to such information. Broadband companies need to develop Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns condemning this trade and they need to make sure that they take all measures to stop this process of degeneration from spreading.

The government also has heavy responsibility on it because it is the government which needs to develop policies which can obstruct the trade & sharing of pornography. The government needs to regulate the internet traffic and learn from partnering countries like China who have maintained a strong control over all the internet traffic coming into the country, one can argue that China uses these capabilities to enforce its totalitarian regime yet we need to remember that we only need this model to block pornographic websites, It is imperative that our society is shielded from this ill because such activities promote atheism and fearlessness towards God. The absence of one’s accountability on his or her actions towards a supreme being can have disastrous effects on the existence of societies.

Let us not forget that the worth of a civilization is not the tall buildings, roads and the economy they construct but in fact it is their religious belief, their morale values, their civic dealings, arts, culture and their ability to bring up good human beings not animals which are driven by their desires. If we fail to provide the youth of our country a strong religious and morale basis we will only end up raising a generation which is not only frustrated but also ethically and morally lost.
